Itchy's Top 5 Weird Sports in 2012
The Olympics? Pah. Check these out.
Feature
The Olympics might (just might)
be happening at some point this summer. We’re not sure. It’s not like
there’s been a big fuss about it or anything. Itchy is backing it all
the way, right down to our little toes- which will be encased in
official Olympics trainers of course. It’s exciting, it’s sweat
inducing. But as the nation watch footage of sweaty, toned athletes
hurling themselves all over the shop, please, spare a thought for those
sports that are going to get overlooked this summer.
There’s some seriously odd sports going on right now (yes right now) as your tiny mind processes this sentence. Itchy's good to you, so we’ve found some seriously obscure sports for you to sink your retinas into. If your high jump is more of a leg guff then perhaps try your hand at these events. Get involved!
Mobile Phone Throwing Championships
If you feel like the daily frustration of checking your phone for messages and changing your ringtone is getting too much and you just can’t handle it anymore, then this is probably the event for you. The next event will take place in August 2012 in Savonlinna- Kirkkopuisto, Puistokatu. Lob, or kick your phone as far as you can and if it goes further than everyone elses, you get a prize. Simple. So if you fancy kicking technology in the electrical A-hole, get yourself to Savonlinna this summer. It’s where the party is at.
UK Backward Running Championships
Right here in our own backyard, we have a sport that makes no sense! Yes, come one, come all to the Backwards Running Championships that take place in Heaton Park, Manchester. Think it sounds a bit risky? Well the website assures us that ‘any sport has risks’. Yes, we imagine any sport in which you can’t see where you’re going would carry considerably more risks than say, a sport in which you run in the right direction. Still, we at Itchy are up for a challenge, and you can’t say you’ve ever run like a boss if you haven’t run backwards.
World Beard and Moustache Championships
If you’re a man, you will have the tough choice of whether to shave yourself clean or bush your face up. If you choose to get bushy with it and still feel empty inside, you may want to consider entering the World Beard and Moustache Championships. Why not share your facial hair with the world? With such beardy categories as ‘Freestyle’, ‘Musketeer’ and ‘Verdi’, there really is something for everyone. Heck, you could win a prize, so why not get yourself over to Las Vegas this August?
The World Pizza Games
The World Pizza Games may have been and gone (don’t cry guys) but good news- you can start practising for your entry in March next year. Taking place in at the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas with a $1000 prize on offer, it contains exciting events such as the ‘Fastest Pizza Box Folding Trials’ and ‘Longest Dough Stretch’. How exhilarating is that for all the dough-fingers out there? Just download an application form and get folding.
Word Chess Boxing Games
A sport for those buff kind of nerds that fancy beating their opponents to a pulp in between taking each others pawns. Nice. Itchy does not endorse violence, although the fact it takes place in a boxing ring with a referee makes us feel a little better about the beatings. They all seem above board.
So that’s Itchy’s top five weirdest sports. Look out for us on the winners podium!
