Oscars
Converted set of Victorian cottages hidden down an alleyway off Little Stonegate, which attracts shoppers during the day, tourists in the summer, and yuppies come the evening – their words, not mine –. The outside patio gets packed, especially on weekends, as people head for heaters that manage to give even icy York a Mediterranean feel. There's a wide selection of European beers and frequent happy hours on jugs of cocktails. The food's worth checking out too –burgers and tapas –all very cheap and in huge portions. And don't surpass the height of Yorkshire cuisine –cheesy chips.
