muse

Richard, Duke of York kept his treasonous townsfolk in check by threatening to behead them and hang their sorry swedes from the Micklegate Bar. Simple, yet effective. The original wooden structure was replaced by the more substantial stone archway in the 1100s and the accompanying three–floored museum details the city's history. In the style of many of York's tourist attractions it boasts some precariously positioned waxwork figures for your delight. For those uninspired by all the facts why not play a game of 'spot the model with the missing finger' –always guaranteed to brighten up the proceedings.
