Siam House
An unlikely looking restaurant accessed by a small doorway and staircase leading up from the street. Wonderful Thai aromas hit you the moment you enter and once you've sat down and read the menu you'll be practically dribbling onto the tablecloth. Criticised for its recent hike in prices, but the Chef's Special Banquet – 4 courses for £20.50 – is still a good deal. As the only exclusively Thai restaurant in York, Siam House offers an authentic alternative to the city's many Italian and Chinese eateries and it means you can feed your Thai green curry habit without having to travel to Leeds or slave over your mum's hotplate with a handful of chillies and a pint of fish stock.
