Splendour Festival 2012
Shorts, wellies, sunnies - it was festival o'clock in Nottingham.
After joining the queue marked 'guest list'; and feeling a little like a groupie of The Wanted, Itchy over heard a funny but pretentious conversation regarding being a super important very important important person; not seen since that time we accidentally mistook the VIP room in Stringfellows for the cloak room queue.
After wading through the BS and flashing our blue wristbands a la Wayne's World backstage passes, we entered the beautiful grounds of Wollaton Park to the sounds of ABBA tribute band, Bjorn Again. With the throngs of 'Dancing Queen' ringing in Itchy's eras, we had to hit the bar for some much needed ice cold alcoholic beverages in the standard paper festival cup.
Itchy soaked up the rays as the likes of Katy B and The Lightning Seeds worked the 20,000 strong crowd, but we had to avert our eyes when sat down, as the amount of young ladies wearing shorts which pretty much displayed everything but the ovaries was enough to have Itchy making an early exit to the delightful portaloos. Itchy averted the standard festival uniform of wellies, socks, shorts, generic slogan tee and Primani sunnies; we were pretty sure that Glastonbury was skipping the proceedings this year...
After Katy B had the crowd like well excited and ting, Itchy popped our indie caps on ready for Razorlight, who certainly didn't disappoint. But Lead singer Johnny Borrell's trousers did, and were reaching for the sky higher than Itchy's arms during every guitar battered tune. We have sent him a memo saying 'Thanks for the rocking tunes Johnny, but Simon Cowell called and he would like his trousers back. Over and Out, Itchy x'
After using up our final drink token on shots of Jaager, we made a last minute dash to the loo before Dizzee Rascal made everyone go Bonkers. Before entering our own personal hell, Itchy was greeted by a man sporting a Union Jack hat-brella, and told 'not to go in there' but we covered every one of our senses and took one for the team.
After picking the perfect spot to erm, spot, the rascal himself, Itchy soaked up the atmosphere on a beautiful Summer's evening as everyone seemed in high spirits (or just high from spirits) and ready to fix up look sharp. As day faded into night, and with no sign of the bat signal, Dizzee finally burst onto the stage to complete a set that left Itchy's calves aching from all the jumping around with the youngs uns.
Itchy has had the pleasure of attending Splendour for many moons, but this was by far the best one yet; what a Splendid way to spend a Summer's Saturday.
