We really REALLY don't want to let that stop us, so we've worked out a way to have our cake AND eat it (or rather, have our drinks AND feel like a human the next day...) Follow these rules and you’ll be sure to wake up strong enough to attend those pesky early starts - we promise.
1. Before drinking, eat something healthy.
Now we don’t necessarily mean a green salad with a piece of wafer-thin ham to accompany, we mean something that doesn’t go along the lines of a greasy pizza or Indian takeaway... When the spirits mix with the grease in your stomach it does not create a great chemical reaction. We at Itchy suggest something like pasta with a tomato sauce, as the carbs will line your stomach nicely, ready for a night of alcohol abuse!
2. Drink fruit juices and water before beginning on the alcohol.
For every glass you drink now, it halves the amount you have to drink the morning after. We find this helps greatly, as sometimes in the morning we can't even THINK about consuming ANYTHING... not even water. By stocking up on liquids beforehand you can set yourself up for a good night with none of the horrid after-effects.
3. Choose your alcohol wisely!
Yes, Jager bombs may seem like a great, cheap idea at the time however the sugars in the energy drink will have a terrible ‘downing’ effect the next day. Stick to lighter spirits with less sugary mixers, as they contain less of the nasty stuff that causes that dreaded hangover. And yes, apparently the rhyme is actually true... ‘Shots before beer, no fear. Beer before shots, maybe not.’ Stay true to this! It’ll save you a lot of hassle in the morning. Though personally for a night out we think beer is always a bad idea (Beer bellies are never forthcoming).
4. Pace out your drinking.
Reach that fun level of drunkenness then make a conscious effort to pace out how much you drink. Maybe one drink an hour after pre drinks? This way it also saves you money in your chosen club, whilst ensuring a half decent morning after! Also try to alternate alcohol with the occasional glass of water. Okay, we may have got stick for this in the past, but bets are that if you're thirsty for a pint of water, so is everyone else in the club. If you’re really worried about it, get an OJ and claim it’s got vodka in... guess who’ll feel better in the morning!
5. When in the comfort of your home have a final drink of water.
Yep, just when the call of your comfy bed is at its most tempting, make a quick trip to the kitchen to have a final glass of water. This puts you in good stead for waking up in the morning and makes a good start of rehydrating your body. Plus it helps to have a bit of sobering up before sleeping, which might prevents those dreams about digeridoo bands, Cher Lloyd and talking dogs taking over the world...
So there we have it, the mystery to cracking those hangover blues! Stick to these rules and you’re sure to make that 9am lecture the next day. (We can't promise it will be interesting, though.)
