Rinkoff Bakery
Walking down Mile End Road, many a passer-by has found herself drawn by a hypnotic aroma into a dodgy-looking alleyway, and stumbled upon a slice of East End history. Rinkoff bakery's grimy location doesn't look too promising, but they've been turning out doughy delights since 1911, and it's clear why they're still going strong. The chewy granary loaves, rye bread and huge slabs of comforting, creamy baked cheesecake are eye-poppingly good, and there's iced banana slabs, 7 types of bagel and big sheets of strudel too. Stock up to liven up work-day butties, or better, a weekend of lazy breakfasts.
