Patisserie Lila
When the little hand at neighbouring Southwark Cathedral chimes to let everyone know it's brew-o'clock, take teatime to a whole new level and visit the Patisserie Lila. Climb up the dramatic iron staircase of this charming and beautifully furnished patisserie for a bird's eye view of the historic and gastronomic Borough Market. Serving posh sweet things made fresh in-house that will delight even the maddest of hatters, you can pile your plate high with Black Forest Gateau, meringue and all that your gluttonous heart desires.

20 Nov 2008Unfortunately I can't provide a full review of PL because we left before we even ordered it. Manager Lila refuses entry for pushchair users unless the chairs are folded. My friend was unable to fold up her pushchair because her 6mth old baby is too small to use a high chair, and folding the chair doesnt save much space anyway. We politely questioned the rule as, aside from us, the café was empty. The friendly staff apologised but warned that Lila may appear at any moment and would chastise us, empty café or not. We moved ourselves outside but it started raining, so we left. A woman with 2 children and pushchair arrived, and promptly left too, after she saw us sitting on the footpath in the rain. PL = Lilas rules, I guess, it just seems unfair to enforce this rule at all times, regardless of whether or not theyre busy. We wont be back. In future we'll find a relaxing, less pretentious place that accepts all customers, space permitting, and serves their sweets a little less bitter.

04 Mar 2010This place is a good example for how a seriously bad place can still make good business: Because the “The Patisserie Lila” is conveniently located near the bustling, fashionable Borough Market, passer-bys will always be lured in – just like it happened to us. Once inside, however, we experienced a service that could hardly have been worse: As we were “only two people”, the sour-faced waitress asked us to join people at another table – which surprised us but it did not put us off. When we had a look at the menu, we were a bit shocked by the rather unreasonably high prices – but we ordered a coffee and chocolate cookies anyway; only to be told by a truly pissed-off waitress that we had to order more to stay which we found very odd indeed. When we pointed out that we were not too hungry really, we were told to leave. Quite an experience! Don’t go – this place is the worst rip-off I have experienced since I came to London in 2004.

04 Apr 2011Don't eat there, previous worker Adam said that when he was preparing quiche - fish was gross and old, Lila owner knows about that and she never wanted to throw away old cakes- workers where scared that people may get sick. Notice that some cakes on display in wooden cabinet are not refridgerated. She change stuff like gloves- don't know if any person who works there have contract!!!!!! This place need some inspection! its amazing this place is still opened!
