Itchy loves a good festival, and no festival is better than Latitude.
It's our favourite, year in, year out - with line-ups that make us
squeal with excitement and a wide selection of top-notch entertainment,
from theatre to cabaret - it never disappoints.
2012 is no exception - Bon Iver, Elbow and Paul Weller headline, along with performances from Dave Gorman, Lana Del Rey, School of Comedy and Sadlers Wells in conjunction with The Pet Shop Boys... and that is literally just touching the surface of the enormous role-call of big names on offer at the Suffolk-based festival, taking place 12-15 July.
Ben Howard, Rufus Wainwright, Tim Minchin, Yeasayer... we could go on forever. But we won't. Instead, let's have a look at some other things that make Latitude bloody amazing. Like the fact that if you get lost in the large wooded area in the festival site, you will be aided by pixies. Yup, genuine pixies. With pixie dust, wings and all. They also have a flock of multicoloured sheep. (No word of a lie.)
There's a whole arena for poetry, and another two whole arenas for literature... Itchy defies you to have A SECOND of boredom at Latitude. (As we recall, it can be quite overwhelming choosing between seeing your favourite poet, a play you've always wanted to see or the band of the year on the main stage... you may need to prepare yourself for split second decisions.)
After the main acts are finished, you get to party the night away in the woods (with those pixies) until you head back contentedly to your tent to grab some shut eye to prepare you for another day of CULTURE and FUN. (We are actually getting a bit excited here in the office just thinking about it...)
If that's not enough to make you want to pack up your maxi dresses/sunnies/short shorts and get on the road to Henham Park, just remember: it's very close to the beach. Not just any beach, Southwold beach - the cutest little pebbly beach, complete with beach huts, incredible pier and traditional beach-side cafe. Definitely worth a visit on the way there/back/both.
