Edinburgh University's student union is worth a mention because, in a city of cellar clubs, it's one of the largest central venues. Still, it is well and truly a union, with cheap drinks, drunk students and, like all job–dodger joints, the bar staff are pretty decent –and in a city like Edinburgh, with so many cack–handed baboons behind the bar, that is no bad thing. Yeah, like you'd expect, they ram out the post–chart classics by the trolley load, but there's a lot more to Potterow than your clichéd university offering... they also attract some tasty acts from DJs to live bands. Worthy of your student loan.
