Cooking with Coco
Lovely family cookbook which is the ideal starting point for those who need a simpler starting point for Italian cooking.
Review
So many Italian cookbooks these days are all "Dig out your pasta maker"
and "Never use anything but imported Italian type 00 flour", which is
all very well if you're extremely rich and have a huge amount of time
on your hands, but not when you bought Tesco value flour ten months ago
to make salt dough and haven't touched it since.
This recipe trove may be written for adults cooking with kids, but you don't have to be a grandparent to see the appeal in the simple but delicious Italian dishes. Indeed they're ideal for adults who have competent child-level culinary skills; the techniques range from mushing stuff (foolproof) to deep frying stuff (get a sensible/skilled person to supervise), and you could happily cherry (tomato) pick your way through the friendly ones until you feel more brave.
Even those who can do complicated things in the kitchen already will appreciate the value of having a set of basic recipes for Italian food which can be whipped up for lunch or elaborated on for dinner. Ignore the kid on the cover and enjoy the benefit of Anna del Conte's years of experience. Grown-ups usually do know best.
