Cafe Citta
Castle Street is home to one of Cardiff's lesser-known gems: the Italian Café Citta. Although tiny in size, it's definitely not lacking in personality. With a wood-burning oven and open kitchen at the back, and the option to tuck yourself away in the cosy interior or people-watch out front, this is traditional Italian dining at its best. On top of this, it's all about family: Papa Adriano welcomes you with an infectious grin; his bambina takes your order; mama cook-a-di-pizza. Itchy enjoyed olives and ciabatta with balsamic and oil, followed by the lunchtime special: £5.95 for half of a (very) decent-sized pizza with salad, accompanied by a bit of background jazz music. Also on offer were hearty pastas, potato-topped pizzas, rustic meat dishes and superfood salads: a menu to rival the Michelin starred joints, with nothing exceeding £12. Bellissimo!
