Waterloo Gardens Teahouse

After hearing of Waterloo Teahouse's 2009 Bev-E award for best café in the UK, we felt a visit was in order to see what all the fuss is about. Despite initial hesitation at its understated exterior and out of the way location, inside carries you away on a relaxing, tea-infused journey, with perhaps a cheeky slice of freshly baked cake. The Teahouse offers a choice of fifty-plus tea flavours: a refreshing change from the bog-standard café where asking for a white peach blossom tea only serves you suspicious looks and sends you scurrying to the door. You can imagine the euphoria on every customer's face as their orders are met unquestioningly with a nod and a smile. Should an emergency call for a quick caffeine fix grip you, the mention of coffee won't be met with hisses of disgust. Instead, you will find yourself, minutes later, sipping a steaming double-shot latte, smiling contentedly and lounging back in a comfy armchair.
