The Pear Tree
Despite an uncanny similarity to its ever-popular neighbour, Juno Lounge, this place has proven an instant hit. The recently opened Pear Tree offers Roath's many hoards of artsy students and yummy mummies a pleasant alternative for when the former is, invariably, full. Crammed with fashionably tattered leather sofas and dusty second-hand books, it achieves a relaxed ambience peppered with friendly staff, a rather attractive back-bar and an interesting range of beers. Food is yummy, and mostly fairly cheap. Top tip: keep an eye on the tapas menu plus outdoor seating combo for when the weather hots up.
