Flat Holm Island
Only five miles from Cardiff, Flat Holm is a tiny island packed full of history, science, wildlife and other intellectual things. Though some of you might not care that it's home to one of the largest colony of gulls in Wales, this local nature reserve should not be missed. Get away from the city on a particularly busy match day, dig for Viking bones or have the best game of hide and seek ever. The phrase 'something for everyone' has never been so apt. Look out for slow worms, gull chicks and, most exciting of all, visit the most southerly point in Wales. All in a day's work for a bored Welshman.
