The Hen and Chicken
Itchy was lucky enough to be invited to the 'friends and family' launch of the Hen and Chicken, North St, Bedminister. Prior to its recent revolution, this place was formerly known as 'The Chav and Chicken'. This was largely due to it's strictly Blackthorn policy and scary locals. Gone are the rough old clientele and shonky décor to make way for a well-designed style bar, lounge, conference and comedy venue; Proprietors, James and Julian insisted Simple Simon, the local designer get a mention. Every aspect of this redesign has involved independent Bristolian trades people, so hats off to the Black Sheep Bars boys for keeping it local! The food is also locally sourced by local chefs and the menu boasts treats such as six varieties of mussels in kilo pots, pizzas made to order in the stone fired oven and organic Wiltshire steaks. There is also a full range of brunches from the sublime smoked salmon to the sumptuous 'meat feast breakfast'. Food is served until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Open until 1am on weekends, this venue has one of the latest licenses on North street. With hand pulled real ales, 16 wines by the glass, and a nice selection of fizz, the Hen and chicken is suitable for any occasion.
