Napoleons Casino & Restaurant, Ecclesall Road
Itchy investigates this Best Night Out award winning venue.
Review
Napoleons has become rather a household name
amongst the night owls of our fair city. With a Casino and bar opening
until the wee hours of the morning (6am at weekends, phew!), it’s often
the last stop before home for night revellers and those trying their
hand with lady luck. What is not so well known perhaps, is that above
the Casino sits a newly refurbished restaurant offering an excellent
array of classic meals, with a variety of offers and deals to suit all
your night out needs.
Itchy couldn’t resist the chance to pop down and sample the July menu, which it has to be said, was really rather delicious. As if the Swordfish with Samphire and Hazelnut potatoes and a large Steak complete with all the trimmings were not enough to fill us up, our bourgeoning bellies were further treated to a vanilla mousse and vanilla roasted peaches with brioche and mascarpone. It was a fine dining experience, with all the perks of excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere, but without the heavy duty price tag.
While the quality of the food and service speaks for itself, Napoleons is not keen to rest on their laurels, also scooping the award for Best Night Out at the West Side Restaurant Awards. Best Night Out!? That is some accolade. So what does an award winning evening at Napoleons entail, I hear you ask? Well, if you decide to try out their Dine in Style package, for a mere £22 you get a drink of choice upon arrival, a 3 course meal and a £5 gaming chip, which will hopefully kick start a winning streak that will keep you playing long into the night (unless you happen to be Itchy, who is cursed on the gaming tables and lost immediately.)
However, if you imagined a night so good you’d be dancing on the ceiling, then maybe a Lionel Richie Tribute would suit you better (see what we did there?) Or, if like us, you believe Careless Whisper to be one of the greatest songs ever penned, then head to Napoleons in September for their George Michael tribute. Along with the musical stylings of these professional copy cats, you’ll get a 5 course meal, a complimentary drink and of course, a gaming chip to finish your evening in style.
Don’t let our misfortune fool you, your £5 could go far in the extremely well equipped Casino: the extra attentive table service will leave you feeling a lot like Bond, James Bond (also, check out the bar snacks, they are ridiculously good and mean ‘snack’ might just turn into ‘dinner.’) If you fancy yourself a dab hand at poker, then why not pop down to the Monday Night Poker game. If, like us, you’re new to gambling or not particularly good at it, then fear not! For a party, they will provide you with your own table and dealer to guide you through the rules. For the more Computer savvy amongst us, there are Youtube video tutorials online so you can waltz into the Casino with an air of confidence only ‘those in the know’ can possess.
While staying up until 6am may not be for you, there is certainly something at Napoleons that will keep you entertained, whether it be good food, excellent entertainment or a good old-fashioned night of gaming. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll have the best night out…ever!
