Record Store Day 2012

April 21st will be a day of CELEBRATION!

Listings

Itchy loves an excuse to celebrate music. That's basically what Record Store Day is - a day of independently owned record stores coming together with artists to celebrate their unique culture.

It began way back in 2007 when over 700 stores in the USA held the first Record Store Day. The UK followed soon after, and 2012 will see our fourth celebration. Believe us, it's a day not to be missed... it's sort of like having another Christmas (but one where you don't have to see any of your family or eat too much food.)

Special vinyl and CD releases are made exclusively for the day - this year expect gems from artists such as M83, Arcade Fire, Animal Collective and Foster the People. Check out of some Domino Records' releases on their Soundcloud Record Store Day sampler.

There's also absolutely loads of events happening espacially for the big day - from DJ sets to live acoustic performances. Click here to discover your nearest participating store, or check out our top 5 picks from across the UK:

Jumbo
Leeds
Catch Dodgy (of "Good Enough" fame) performing a live acoustic set alongside The Staves, To Kill A King, Still Corners and Rosie Doonan.

Piccadilly

Manchester
This Manchester record store is hosting all-star DJ Sets from 12-5pm, including hour long sets from Mr. Scruff, Tim Burgess (Charlatans), Balearic Mike, Neil Diablo (El Diablo's) and Jason Boardman (Aficionado), alongside vinyl art from Jilly Hartshorn.

Rise
Bristol
Rise have got a massive line up, including live sets from The Duke Spirit, Spectres, Buzzards and Summer Camp as well as a DJ set from Aaron Fletcher from The Bees. On top of this there will be exclusive artwork by Orlando Weekes from The Maccabees displayed instore - copies will be available to buy.

Rubadub

Glasgow
The highlight of the day in Glasgow is a DJ set from dubstep, UK funky, UK garage, and house legend Joy Orbison. They are also very proud to announce that all DJ sets will be played through "an Allen & Heath Xone:V6 and the Technics 1200s" (Whatever that means.)

Sister Ray
London
Run along to Sister Ray to get your bits signed by Simple Minds, or to see Billy Bragg playing live at midday. (Please play New England, Bill...) There will also be an all-star lineup behind the counter - with Bob Stanley (Saint Etienne), Comedian Hardeep Singh and (most impressively) Pete Paphides, legendary music journalist, all manning the tills for the day.

We love a free day of music. Get in.
