Christmas Events in London
Go crackers in the capital
Saturday 21st November – Friday 18th December Try out your best ice-skating tricks on London's largest open-air ice rink: just be careful not to knock over any of the littluns skating about. With its enormous skating rink, Christmas market, and considerable number of attractions on offer, (read: giant Ferris wheel and Christmas circus) Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland will leave you positively overflowing with Christmas cheer. It's like visiting a shellacked and sugar-coated Thorpe Park – one that is free of smarm and full of Santa. 10 am – 10pm. Ice rink £10 - £13, Christmas circus £7.50 - £8, Ferris wheel £7.50 (adult prices). Christmas Fair at 02
Saturday 21st November – Sunday 3rd January> If for some ungodly reason it's too cold and miserable outside for an open-air Christmas festival you can always opt to enjoy Christmas frivolity within the confines of the O2's massive enclosed arena. Hell, even if the weather is nice you should check it out. Re-live your childhood and explore ”Santa's Grotto“ whilst enjoying excessive amounts of candy. Or, do some Christmas shopping (and eating) at the German Christmas Market. But before filling up on candy and pfannkuchen, Itchy suggests you try the rides first (especially the Reindeer Rollercoaster), lest you make an unsightly spectacle of yourself. Free admission. All-day pass for funfair rides £17.50 - £20. Hackney Empire Pantomimes
Saturday 28th November – Saturday 9th January Here at Itchy, we know it just wouldn't be Christmas without campy drag theatre. No need to argue with us on this one – pantomime is one of our favourite seasonal pastimes. When else can you enjoy the not-so-subtle comedy of men dressed as unattractive ladies and women starring in the leading man's role? (Don't answer that). This year, if you enjoy pantomime as much as we do, check out the Hackney Empire's Aladdin show. Enjoy the classic children's story like you never thought you would. Singing camels and tap-dancing pandas will keep the performance freshly bizarre. £9.50 - £22.50. Great Christmas Pudding Race
Saturday 5th December Celebrate the true spirit of the holiday season by participating in London's long-standing Great Christmas Pudding Race. On a December morning in Covent Garden, teams of six will navigate through various obstacles (like flour-filled balloons) in fancy dress whilst carrying trays of pudding to raise money for cancer research. Last year the charity event raised £17,000. If you are unable to participate, Itchy strongly suggests you come out to enjoy the race as well as the other various live entertainment on offer – it's not only good fun, but it's also for a good cause. £25 registration. £100 minimum for each team member (£600 total).
