The Cineroleum

Forecourt film frolicks

Listings

We're not quite sure when 'pop-up' replaced the word 'temporary'. We think it slipped under the radar at some point in 2009 but slip under it did, and now people who can't be bothered to set up a proper venue get to flounce about having a nice time then disappear just when we're getting attached to them. It's cruel, but my does it keep things interesting.

Latest to pop up in London is The Cineroleum, a cinema in a disused petroleum dispensary on the Clerkenwell Road (see what they did there?). If you haven't watched a film on a derelict petrol station forecourt, frankly you're a loser. We recommend you get your arse on a plush seat in this picture house on as soon as your saddo legs can get you there.

Not content with being trendy-as-fuck, this pop-up cinema was constructed using largely donated and reclaimed materials, so the decadent interior that will welcome guests is super-green, and highlights the potential uses of derelict spaces across the country.

Showings in August are sold out, but September will see screenings of Zombie flick to end them all Night of the Living Dead, post-apocalyptic French hilarity-fest Delicatessen, and classic Sci-Fi from 1927 Metropolis among other cinematic gems.

Tickets are only £5, too, so this fabulously individual experience is cheaper than every sticky-to-the-touch multiplex in London town. Tickets here.
