March events in Glasgow

Stir yourself from your Valentine's Day love-haze and pancake-induced sloth, Glaswegians; March is set to be a busy month. It's a time for maternal bonding on Mother's Day (you'll face a lifetime of cold dinners, scowls and 'forgotten' birthdays if not) and getting unpleasantly drunk in the name of St Paddy. Aye Write! Book Festival 2009

6–14 March

Budding writers – get your Parker pens and spiral-bound notepads at the ready, Aye Write! Book Festival 2009 is a-comin to town. Glasgow's literary festival will be four years old this March, and is celebrating by hosting nine days of events at Mitchell Library between 6th and 14th March. Clever literary types making an appearance include Alan Bennett, Melvyn Bragg, Joan Bakewell and Ian Rankin.

Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2009
12–29 March

If the thought of all this high-brow intellectualising leaves you gasping for a giggle, fear not, Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2009 will get Glasgow guffawing. The seventh festival hopes to be the best yet, with 370+ shows packed into 18 days. There are plenty of familiar funny-men, including Jimmy Carr, Paul Merton, Rob Brydon, Clive James, Frank Carson and Ardal O'Hanlon. Comedy workshops and kids' activities are also planned.
